La necropoli de Le Mole

Lungo il costone situato sotto il lago di Nemi, nella zona de Le Mole, che deriva il nome dalla presenza di mulini fin dal XVI secolo, sono visibili alcune grotte frequentate già in età protostorica, utilizzate come necropoli in età arcaica e successivamente rioccupate nel V-VI sec. d.C., scavando nel pavimento tombe con copertura a cappuccina, costituita da laterizi o tegole disposti a doppio spiovente, nelle quali vennero reimpiegate lastre di marmo, peperino e laterizi di età precedente.Gli ambienti, direttamente accessibili dalla strada che conduce al romitorio di S. Michele Arcangelo, anch'esso ricavato in una grotta presso la sorgente della Ninfa Egeria, vennero ampliati successivamente e utilizzati come cava e come rifugio. Gli scavi condotti nel secolo scorso hanno portato al rinvenimento di oltre quaranta deposizioni con corredi funerari, piuttosto poveri, consistenti per la maggior parte in un solo vaso posto vicino al capo.
