L'emissario
Poche decine di metri a sud del ninfeo, poco sopra il pelo dell'acqua, si raggiunge l'imbocco dell'antico Emissario, un canale realizzato nel V sec. a.C. per regolare il livello del lago. La struttura, scavata nel banco naturale fino a Vallericcia e da qui a cielo aperto fino ad Ardea, dove sfocia nel Fosso dell'Incastro, č preceduta da una camera d'ingresso rettangolare in opera quadrata di peperino, che doveva essere inizialmente aperta, successivamente coperta con una volta a botte e dotata di saracinesche forate che, oltre a regolare il flusso dell'acqua, impedivano il passaggio di materiali occludenti. La costruzione č ritenuta precedente di un secolo l'Emissario del lago albano, risalente ai primi anni del IV sec. a.C., ed č stata posta in relazione allo spostamento verso il lago del Santuario di Diana, situato sulla riva settentrionale del bacino, che sarebbe stata possibile proprio grazie al regolamento del livello lacustre.
